About.

My name is Anne Schwartz and I am an eleventh year teacher in an Escondido public magnet school.  I spent three years at an all-girls independent boarding school and my first year teaching at a k-8 public school in Santa Clara, CA. You can read about how a public school gal ends up in Upstate New York here.   I am committed to social justice, equality, and feminism.  I am working on ways to live that.  Also, I have a giant cat named Mulligan and a tiny cat named Ginsberg.  They’re ridiculous.

  1. Just stumbled upon your blog and am really enjoying it! I am currently serving at a state run boarding school in Alaska through Americorps (I’m originally from DC), and am looking into pursuing teaching as a career and hopefully teach at a boarding school. I’m thoroughly enjoying the boarding school environment and your posts resonate with many issues I am also committed to. Thanks for sharing your experiences! If you think you could find the time to shoot some advice to a prospective future boarding school teacher, I would very much appreciate it!

  2. Hello, so glad to have found this blog. Could you elaborate whether it is doable for teachers with families to get jobs or fellowships at boarding schools, or do you find that the hiring committee views this negatively? Much appreciated!
