Take a deep breath

I find myself singing Legally Blonde the Musical a lot lately.  I may have just lost every reader of this post but I’ll continue to ramble anyway.  There is a song in Legally Blonde that begins

Take a deep breath, take it all in

Feels all those halogens warming your skin

Smell how they pump in pure oxygen, see they care.

It’s a terribly silly song, that if you couldn’t tell happens to be about a department store.   But I find myself singing it nonetheless.  Not because the topic of department stores is constantly on my mind but because I need to remind myself to breathe. I think I tend to be excellent at appreciating my life.  It is good, the work is challenging and fun, the free time is limited but packed full and the sleep is solid.

But sometimes I find my walking home from school and thinking only about what’s next. I think about which students I need to talk to, what I need to talk to them about, what I am going to teach tomorrow, my mind continues and continues until suddenly Legally Blonde pops in to my head “take a deep breath, take it all in.”

even when i find myself doing too much complaining, i always end up qualifying my statements. my life: “It is good, the work is challenging and fun, the free time is limited but packed full and the sleep is solid.”

  2. Sophie, you have an impeccable ability to articulate exactly how I feel. Please if you could post for my blog too, because it always just seems to match. Anyway thanks for the words of encouragement (or reminder I don’t know), and good luck with the rest of your year.
